The UTC is for students aged 14-18. Most of our students join us at the start of Year 10 but you can also join us at the start of sixth form. We opened in September 2015 and from September 2016 we will have around 350 students spread across four year groups.
You can still apply for 2016 entry by following the tab at the top of this page but you will need to get in touch with us as soon as possible. By following the “apply” tab at the top of the page you can also express an interest in 2017 entry.
About the UTC
We opened to students in September 2015 following an £8m refurbishment of the former police headquarters site on Wilton Road, Salisbury (SP2 7EU). The UTC is now fully open and is an exciting and stimulating learning environment that is inspiring the next generation of scientists, technologists and engineers.
The UTC is led by our Principal, Joe Mulligan (from 16.01.17), and our Vice Principal, Matt Trehy. They lead a team of highly experienced and inspiring staff who use their industrial and commercial experience and employer links to bring the learning to life.
A catchment area is the main area we expect students to come from. Students living further away will be able to apply but local people will have priority. We are based in Salisbury, very close to the railway station, and have good links with the local bus network that make it easy for you to get to us.
Students living within 22 miles straight line distance from our site in Wilton Road, Salisbury (SP2 7EU) have first call on UTC places. This includes Southampton, Eastleigh, Andover, Gillingham, Pewsey, Warminster, Westbury, Amesbury, Tidworth and Winchester as well as the whole of South Wiltshire. We have room for 600 students so don’t be put off applying if you live further away!
For initial information about help with the costs of getting to the UTC see our answer in the “What is a UTC?” section.
The UTC will welcome students of all abilities and you’ll not have to pass a test to get in.
We think that coming to the UTC will give you the best possible start to your future career and we want to be fair to everyone who wants to come. Like all schools, we have “Admissions Criteria” which are clear rules about what will happen if we get more applications than we have places. You can download a copy of our Admissions Policy by following the “Apply Now” link on our homepage.
To keep up to date on all developments at the UTC please register on our contact us page. We will also be working closely with your local authority and other schools to ensure fair access for students who need to join or transfer schools during an academic year.
Applications open on 1 September each year for entry in the following September. Follow the links at the top of this page to find out more about Year 10 and Year 12 entry. Please make sure that you have read our Admissions Policy that you have all necessary information available before you apply (see the checklist on the applications page).
If you have registered for email updates on our “contact us” page we will keep you informed of developments and of the many events and meetings we will be holding throughout the area to help you decide if the UTC is right for you. If you are interested in 2017 Entry you can express an interest by following this link to an external site. You will still need to apply formally after 1 September 2016.
