University Technical Colleges (UTCs) are a brand new type of school you join at 14 or 16. UTCs make learning come alive by using experts from local employers and real challenges from the world of work. You'll learn practical skills and academic subjects together and develop personal skills employers want.
South Wiltshire UTC will use real world challenges from the Defence and Scientific Protection industries to prepare you for a Science or Engineering career. Whether you want to go straight into work, start an Apprenticeship, enter the Armed Forces or go to university, joining the UTC will change your life.
University Technical Colleges (UTCs) open from 8.30am to 5.00pm and for 40 weeks a year. This gives you extra time to learn – roughly 1 extra year of teaching every 2 years compared to most schools. If GCSEs or A Levels are right for you then you'll combine these with industry-approved qualifications in Engineering or Applied Science. Or perhaps take a course to prepare you for an Apprenticeship.
At South Wiltshire UTC you'll also have a wide choice of activities to stretch you as a person – maybe volunteering or Army Cadets or sport or building robots or demonstrating Science in a primary school.
University Technical Colleges (UTCs) are open to all learners who want to join. There's no test to get in – you just have to commit to work hard and grab the unique chance the UTC will give you. We'll open in September 2015 with Year 10 (start of GCSEs) and Year 12 (start of sixth form).
South Wiltshire UTC expects to recruit students from around 20 miles in any direction from our site close to Salisbury railway station. We will start accepting applications in September 2014. Click here for a brochure or here to find out more about our application process.
One of the most exciting things about University Technical Colleges (UTCs) is the contact you'll have with real experts. Our teachers will bring lessons alive with practical projects and examples from industry – many will have worked in industry themselves. Guest lecturers from the University of Southampton and our world class local employers will show you how Science and Engineering work in the real world.
When you leave South Wiltshire UTC you will have real in-depth understanding of all the subjects you have studied and a wide choice of future courses and careers.
University Technical Colleges (UTCs) are open to all - there's no such thing as a typical UTC student. You'll help build and shape a whole new learning community.
